The Committee Chair Viacheslav Kyrylenko stressed the necessity of comprehensive approach for celebration of the 200th birth anniversary of Taras Shevchenko and noted that “nontransparent decisions of executive authorities on preparation of this seminal event cause deep concern”.    

Participants of the meeting expressed their concern with repair, restoration and construction work carried out in the National Taras Shevchenko Museum in Kyiv, Shevchenko National Reserve in Kaniv and the National Reserve “Homeland of Taras Shevchenko” of Zvenyhorod region of Cherkasy Oblast, which, according to the rapporteurs, “is held without the respective licenses and does not correspond to the spirit of life and creativity of the Great Kobzar”.    

Committee members granted a hearing to the information provided by the Director of the National Reserve Homeland of Taras Shevchenko Oleksand Komarenko and the Deputy Chairman of the Cultural Department of Cherkasy Oblast State Administration Mykola Sukhovyi, who spoke of the situation around the historical building of the XIX century named “Chumatska khata”. The people’s deputies expressed critical remarks to the leadership of the Reserve and Oblast State Administration.
